about

Formed in Tokyo in 2018.
Members are Takashi Asano (Gt), who has worked with Votzco in the past and continues to explore new approaches. Yuko Kurosaka (Ba) is a talented artist who formerly worked with The Doodles and Geta Geta, and continues to output her unique expression influenced by various countries and eras. Then there is Yuki Koike (D), a member of North by Northwest and GAKUDAMA, who is also active simultaneously as a member of various other support groups and enlivens the scene at a bottomless personal pace.
In 2019, the band released "4 Songs E.P. (TAPE)" as a greeting album, and this year marks the fourth year of the band's activities, which started with a combination of members with clearly too strong personalities.
This is the first full album record (LP) with songs that highlight the presence of the three members, variations that seem to have been poured into all of the band's activities, and the band's sincere attitude. 2022 October will finally see the release of the physical work.

The album contains nine songs that embody the band's form in a straightforward manner, based on the premise of being "in the moment" and real, with a sound that is raw and even dangerous.
Each song is a work of originality, weaving together musical conventions from the heyday of the broadly defined melodic punk genre to its descent into the underground, from multiple perspectives.
The outer circle begins with a gradual burst of pale numbers (like the roots of alt-country), and from there the killer Gt, full of noisy thirst, runs at full speed with each Vo that enhances the sound source as the main axis. Further accentuating this flow is the bass, which incorporates the intonation of each track into the development in various patterns, and the three points carved by the hot mood of the drums, which resonate strongly musically. The presence of each of these parts blasts out as a vivid document, and the album progresses in a very "interesting" manner, including the order of the tracks.

This work is covered with a veil of 90's comfort, reminiscent of "The Weakerthans (1st) or Team Dresch interpreted by a Japanese Under Ground band. On top of that, the members say that Shudder To Think and Les Thugs are their starting point.
Taking it further from there, the album echoes the guitar work of late 80s Boston neighborhoods such as Volcano Suns, Mission Of Burma, and Last Stand (Scum Guns) as elements, with a garage feel that rides as reality throughout the album. And the members have openly stated that some of the ideas were inspired by the Lilys around the time they released A Brief History. Ba's music, which feels like a cohabitation of charm and madness, incorporates talents that would later become patented, and DIY PUNK influences such as A-Heads and Spitboy are also evident. And the atmosphere of Dain Bramage's (Dave Grohl) 80s US basement, a musical derivation that foreshadowed the future of the time, is embodied in every stroke of the drums, which also verbalizes the appeal of "pounding 8 beats and blasting ride cymbals to the limit of their amplitude". The impact and heat of the music is palpable as sweat.
The sheer joy and variation of each part as a work of art, like a reset and reworking of melodic punk from around Gainesville such as Radon, raises a flag every time I listen to it in detail.
Incidentally, the reason I cite various band names in this text is meant as a respect for the fact that the members of WETNAP are people who listen to a large amount of music.

This album was recorded/mixed/mastered by Mr. Rei Yokoyama (Storohorn Music Laboratory), cover photo by Mr. Kota Iha (Takashi Asano's best friend for 20 years), and the artwork was created entirely by the band, with the help of Mr. Yuma Suzuki ( Endless Homework) helped with the production. With the support of many people, the band's idea was materialized into a complete soundtrack.
